HABITAT

The preferred habitat of the crested Caracara includes wet and arid grasslands, coastal plains, river bottom land, scrub and open to semi-open brush lands. The major cause of the decline of the species is habit loss. Caracaras have been spotted from as far north as the Panhandle to as far west as Terlingua. The largest concentration left in the US is in Palmetto State Park near Gonzales.
