Texas sugarcane is mechanically harvested, chopped in footlong pieces and dropped into specially designed ''boxes'', which hold 10 tons. A field tractor takes each box of sugarcane to a conveniently located transfer point, where large forklifts place two bins on highway trucks for delivery to the mill. As the sugarcane leaves the field, the truck driver is given a computer card which identifies the sugarcane by field, owner, and variety. the computer card is used when weighing the sugarcane and again when it is unloaded at the mill. |
