Description

The Longoria Cemetery meets the age requirement as it dates back more than 75 years. The oldest burial is of Juan Miguel Longoria (1815-1875) in an above ground brick tomb. The tomb was restored by Paul Rivera in May 1998, staying true to the original style when it was first built. Mr. Rivera has been a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife team who are restoring historical buildings in Roma, Texas 1996-1997 and the Historical Lighthouse in Port Isabel, Texas in 1998. Photos of the tomb prior to its restoration and slides of the work in progress are available for your your review.

Other clearly marked graves in the Longoria Cemetery over 75 years include Isabel Lopez (1829-1896); Julia Garza (died 1909 at 72 years of age); Tereza G. de Longoria (died 1909 at 72 years of age) the second wife of Juan Miguel Longoria; Gregoria O. Cano (1891-1912).
