![]() Mrs. Ballenger said that burials ceased because the county no longer permitted burials at "El Pie." She had no explanation as to why the county forbids it or who made the inquires to the county about the burials. |

The age of the cemetery isn't known, Mrs. Ballenger states that the cemetery was in existence when they purchased the land in the 1930s. The oldest tombstone is that of FILIPE MARTINEZ who died May 7, 1928 at the age of 10 years. That would make the cemetery about 68 years old. However, because there was a ranch there in the late 1880s it seems that the cemetery could be older, have been larger, and that markers have deteriorated and/or have been removed over time. The cemetery is surrounded by farm fields on all sides, and there is no fence protecting it. It appears that burials ceased in the 1950s with the burial of GUADALUPE FLORES who died July 4, 1955 and with the burial of another person whose name is not visible. The date of that decesed is Dec. 1955, a child who was born on Dec. 18, 1952. |
