After having had our team shot to pieces by the loss of the Guardsmen school boys, who were eligivle to play under interscholastic rules, but were ruled out by county officials, we ended the season with two games won and two lost. Only three teams were represented in the county.

Only three boys will be lost by graduation, and the prospects for nect year are good indeed.

The squad this year consisted of: quarterback Fulton Dye; Fulback Emett Dye, Left halfback Cuthbert Drake, Right halfback James Scaief, Left end George Boyle, Ralph Gretzinger, Right Tackle Oscar Pursley, Left guard Roy Goolsby, Right guard Cleveland Wheelus, Center Phillip Brown.

The season of 1916 was a great success for the Baseball team. The Valley championship was ours and, as we have only lost a few by graduation, prospects for the 1917 season are good. The season this year is late in starting due to the county meet, but we expect to have time to demonstrate the superiority of our Baseball team.

The probable team is:

Pitcher Fulton Dye, Cather Emmett Dye, First Base Phil Brown, Second Base James Scaief, Shortstop Cuthbert Drake, Third Base Roy Goolsby, Roswell Bohner, Left Field Glen Street, Center Field Emory Worley, Right Field Guy Myers, Harry Thayer.

For the first time in its history San Benito High School was represented by a strong, well balenced team. In Brown, Goolsby and Worley, San Benito has three of the best distance men that the Valley has ever produced. Thayer and Worley are heaving the shot close to thirty-six feet; Dye has the hundred yard to himself and Scaief takes off the hurdles in fine style. E. Dye and Street do the four-forties and two-twenties, while we are represented in the relays by Drake, Street, Scaief and E. Dye.

Standing: Gretzinger, Bohner, Turner(Coach), Street, Drake, Phillips(Spectator), Dye. Seated: Scaief, Worley, Goolsby, Thayer, Dye, Brown, Woods.
