Several Berta Cabaza eighth grade students conducted experiments at four sites along the Resaca between Robertson Street and Highway 77 on January 8, 1998. The data collected at these sites indicated that the average water temperature was approximately 17.5 ° C, the air temperature was 19 ° C and the velocity of the surface water near the shoreline was approximately .38 Meters per second. They concluded that the warm water temperature and the slow water flow have evidently contributed to the increase in water plants near the banks of the Resaca thus increasing the pollutants found in the water. Farther studies have to be done, but one thing is clear&endash; a great variety of living things including ourselves depend on this life-giving waterway, and without it, this semi-desert area would not be the oasis that it is today. | ||
