Act II

In the second act the journey continues and the devils reappear. An older man, known as a hermit, is portrayed in this act and helps the shepherds fight off the devils. The shepherds were convinced and began to think of gifts to take to the baby Jesus. Their first idea was to decorate a staff, using grass and flowers, resulting in something that looked like a rattle. Each night they planned a project so that they could all have something for the baby Jesus. In this act, the devils appear again but the shepherds use a lasso made of grass spurs to defeat them.
