The Railroad Comes to
Cameron County
In 1885, the San Antonio and Arkansas Pass Railroad (S.A&A.P.) hired Uriah Lott to construct a railroad from San Antonio to the Arkansas Pass area.
Lott hired Benjamin F. Yoakum (1859-1929) as his chief clerk. Lott soon promoted him to general manager. In 1886, Lott completed a branch to what is now Alice, Texas.
