THE LEGEND OF THE SWAN

As told to Macros Alaniz

by his Great Great Grandmother

There were people who believed that the swan has lived since the gods. It all started when two slaves were imprisoned for robbery. The main god Zeus wanted to kill them for their crime. The men had no names. They were only known as "the slaves". The two men had some talent. The first was a good actor, and the other was a good inventor. Together they had a plan to escape. First they loosened the bars from the window. Then the actor pretended that he was sick, and cold. The inventor asked for candles and feathery blankets. When they got all their materials, they started to make some wings, and masks by melting the wax on the feathers. When they finished one of the suits, they hurried to try it on. The actor quickly put on the suit, and opened the bars from the prison. Then he got into position, and flew into the sky. The inventor quickly went to start on his suit. He worked day and night. Then on the third day, he was done. They planned to leave at day-break. When they escaped, Zeus found out, and ordered them back or they would die. They returned to Zeus, and Zeus asked them what creature they disguised themselves as. They were worried for a second, but then the actor yelled out "SWANS." Zeus like the name for feathery creatures, so he created more animals just like it. Still to this day, they still live, but they are becoming extinct.
