Betts, Wilson, McLaughlin, and Smith Families
|
Betts Family Mr. & Mrs. Everette Betts owned and operated a small cafe that specialized in the best "Pit Bar-b-que" (and other food)in the area. Originally located on Stenger Street, one block from the resaca, on Biddle Street, Everette & Melissa moved their business to a two story building at the corner of La Palma and Florencia Streets (where a watermill stands today.) I have fond memories of going to "Everette's" as a child with my father. Daddy or Everette would prop me up on one of the bar stools, and I felt like a queen. Everette always treated me special, at least that's the way I remember his kind ways. I was present as he lay dying at Valley Baptist Hospital, and as I spoke to Mrs. Betts, she remined me that Everette had thought I was a special little girl. I'll never forget him. S. Tumberlinson
