The Kingfisher lays five to eight white unmarked eggs. The eggs hatch in twenty-four days and after five weeks, the young birds leave the burrow. The juvenile kingfishers are taught to fish by their parents, who drop dead fish into the water for the young to retrieve. Once they learn to feed themselves, they are forced to seek their own territories.
